Yuki Tsunoda: I was at the beach when they called me.
Yuki Tsunoda unexpectedly returned to Formula 1, replacing Liam Lawson in the Racing Bulls team, who in turn replaced the injured Isaac Hadjar at Red Bull Racing. In Zandvoort, Yuki shared that he received a call inviting him to race while he was relaxing on the beach in Greece.
Yuki Tsunoda: "Of course, it's great to be back. When I received the news, I was in Greece, where I was combining training with relaxation. At the moment of the phone call, I was just lying on the beach and enjoying life.
On Tuesday, I got a call saying that I might be starting this weekend. Of course, I was happy, but I didn't fully believe it would actually happen because a lot could still change in such a situation.
After a while, everything was confirmed, and I found out that I would indeed be racing this weekend. I'm very happy about it and feel physically ready. This season, I've already tested cars from previous years, but I haven't driven this car yet, so I'm looking forward to the moment I get behind the wheel.
As far as I understand, it's currently just about one weekend, and then everything will depend on Isaac's recovery pace. I hope he gets better quickly. I don't know what will happen next in Monza.
Right now, my goal is just to enjoy it. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time – since the beginning of the season, I've really wanted to be back behind the wheel and compete with other drivers. Now I just want to enjoy this opportunity and, of course, give it my all. I hope that's enough to achieve a good result."
