Gary Anderson on Lando Norris's new contract

      Gary Anderson, a former racing car designer and now an expert for the British online publication The Race, is certainly happy for Lando Norris and the McLaren team, who have announced the continuation of their partnership until 2030, but he also sees negative consequences for the entire Formula 1.

      For McLaren and Norris, this is the best thing they could have done, as the car allows them to win races, and the team is determined to regain its former glory and regularly contend for titles and the Constructors' Cup.

      It should also be added that, in reality, Norris has nowhere else to go – where else can he get such a car and the kind of support that he currently enjoys at McLaren?

      Oscar Piastri also has the opportunity to show what he is capable of, and he is very good as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Australian also stays with this team. Why not? He has worked well with McLaren and is also quite capable of fighting for victories.

      However, all these long-term contracts mean that the doors for young and promising drivers remain closed. And since there are almost no tests where they could demonstrate their talents, how can they attract attention? Take Leonardo Fornaroli, last year's Formula 2 champion and now a reserve driver for McLaren: what is he doing this season?

      In Formula 1, there continues to be talk about the need to seek out new genuine talents, and there are even discussions about the prospects of female representatives appearing in the World Championship, but who could explain how they plan to act to realize such scenarios?

      I agree that tests of cars from previous years (TPC) are being conducted, which at least provides some opportunities, but who pays attention to that?

      Something needs to be done because the youth series F3 and F2, which one must go through to get to Formula 1, are simply too expensive. However, this has always been the case, and money in motorsport is much more important than talent, as evidenced by the example of Alpine, which extended its contract with Franco Colapinto.
