Kulthard: Compared to Horner, Mekis has different methods.

David Coulthard was the very first driver to sign a contract with Red Bull over twenty years ago when the team, formed from Jaguar Racing, debuted in the World Championship. In 2006, he became the first to step onto the podium in Red Bull Racing attire, and that was in Monaco.

The Scot has long since retired from motorsport but maintains close ties with the team from Milton Keynes, remaining its official ambassador. In an interview with RacingNews365, he shared his observations on how the team is faring at this new stage in its history, as its management has almost completely changed. Moreover, changes will continue in the coming years, as the upcoming move to McLaren of Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen's race engineer, is already known.

"The task of Laurent Mekies, the team principal, is to ensure the career growth of good specialists working in the team, as well as to invite new necessary people to it," David said. "Max is one of those who attracts such people, and in this regard, he can be compared to Adrian Newey.

When Adrian is working in the team, people think he knows how to achieve success. It hasn't worked out at Aston Martin yet, but I'm confident that in the long term, they will also make progress.

It always takes time, but in my opinion, the key point is that Laurent was once part of the Red Bull family, and he didn't have to build relationships from scratch with the Austrian management of the company, with its owners, as they already know him.

He has vast experience gained over years of his career, having worked at the FIA, worked at Ferrari, and compared to Christian Horner, he is a different person with different working methods. But to win the World Championship, you need more than just a team principal, and Laurent knows that.

He is a very calm person and understands that Max has reasons to be upset because the whole team is upset. But a special relationship has already developed between the driver and the principal; there is a kind of chemical reaction, and I think that the press will soon have all doubts about this dispelled."
