Italian Grand Prix: Changes to the track and overtaking zones

      On the eve of the Italian Grand Prix, the FIA announced changes to the track and confirmed the locations of the activation zones for the overtaking mode (OT) and SM (Straight Mode) zones. Compared to last year, a new barrier and mesh fencing have been installed on the left side of the main straight in Monza. A new curb with a negative slope has appeared on the left side before the first turn, starting from the sign indicating 100 meters to the corner. Similar curbs with a negative slope, starting from the sign indicating 100 meters to the corner, have been installed on the right side of the track before the fourth and eighth turns. The first section of the gravel safety zone in the fifth turn on the left side has been replaced with asphalt. In the ninth turn on the right side at the apex, a new layer of natural grass has been laid. New mesh fencing has been installed on the left side between the 10th and 11th turns.

      There is one overtaking mode zone on the Italian track. The detection point for this zone is located at the entrance to the 11th turn. Being within one second behind an opponent's car at the measurement point, the driver will be able to activate the overtaking mode, gaining additional electrical energy. The activation point for the overtaking mode is at the 11th turn. The SM zones are divided into two subsections – zones where active aerodynamics are used under normal tire grip conditions (the rear and front wings can be opened) and under reduced grip conditions (on a wet track, only the front wing can be opened). Under normal grip conditions, active aerodynamics can be used in sections starting 30 meters after the 11th turn/pit lane exit, 70 meters after the 3rd turn, 170 meters after the 7th, and 130 meters after the 10th. Under reduced grip conditions, active aerodynamics can be used in sections starting 100 meters after the 11th turn/pit lane exit, 110 meters after the 3rd turn, 230 meters after the 7th, and 180 meters after the 10th.
