Schumacher acknowledges that he has been holding onto his F1 dream 'too tightly.'

Mick Schumacher acknowledges that he may have "held on too tightly" to the notion of returning to the Formula 1 grid. After losing his Haas seat at the conclusion of 2022, the German spent two years as Mercedes' full-time reserve driver. For 2025, he has been replaced by Valtteri Bottas, and the now 25-year-old Schumacher will focus solely on his WEC racing career with Alpine.

"I decided at 11 that I wanted to be in Formula 1," said the son of the legendary Michael Schumacher in an interview with Bild am Sonntag. "That remains my goal. F1 has been and continues to be my lifelong dream. I still have something to prove in Formula 1."

However, he also candidly admits that it's time to move forward. "I realized that I was too attached to Plan A in the past," Schumacher reflected. "I should have also considered what Plans B and C might entail. I understand that now and feel positive about it."

He views 2025 as "an opportunity for reorientation," expressing that "it's beneficial to have some distance from Formula 1." Nevertheless, he added, "Every driver in Formula 1 has talent, that’s undeniable. But when I look at the grid, I have no doubt that I could compete. I'm no less capable than they are." Schumacher concluded by stating that he feels he was "wrongly labeled" as a driver prone to crashes during his two years with Haas.
