Presentations of new cars: Aston Martin AMR25
Aston Martin did not limit itself to participating in the general presentation, but presented the AMR25 separately, in the format familiar to recent years – the seven minutes allotted at the general ceremony were not enough to talk about the next changes and plans for the future.
Andy Cowell, who was appointed as the team's head and executive director only in January, led the team into the new season. There was also a place for the former boss in the new structure – Mike Krak is now in charge of track operations, Enrico Cardile has taken over as chief technical officer, and former chief engineer Tom McCullough has remained "in a senior position."
The team traditionally sets high goals for the season, but they emphasize that the main thing is to build a competitive car and get in maximum shape by the beginning of the 2026 season, when the technical regulations in Formula 1 will change and there will be a real chance to join the fight for victory.
Andy Cowell, Chief Executive and Team Principal: "I'm looking forward to the start of this season and I'm excited to see the AMR25 on the Bahrain circuit tomorrow. This is the culmination of the incredibly hard work that has been carried out at the AMR Technology Campus and our shared commitment. We are all inspired by the historical heritage of the Aston Martin brand, and we strive to achieve excellence both on and off the race tracks.
When creating this year's car, we took into account the lessons of last season, primarily striving to make the car more manageable and more obedient. We expect that from the very beginning of the season in Australia, there will be a very intense rivalry in the championship, and we understand that it will not be easy for us.
But we set realistic goals for ourselves, hoping to consistently achieve improvements in all areas, especially since we, like all other teams, are preparing for the transition to the new technical regulations in 2026."
The AMR25 front wing is a substantially upgraded version of this element, introduced at the end of last season. It was important to achieve increased downforce at low speeds and improved chassis balance so that the riders felt that the car's behavior became more stable in all phases of cornering.
The updated profile of the AMR25 side pontoons was the most noticeable external change compared to last year's car. A deep cut has appeared in the lower part, and an inclined channel runs along the entire upper surface, contributing to a more efficient direction of air flow.
The dense layout of the radiators of the cooling system of the power plant is now organized somewhat differently – this was required by the new geometry of the side pontoons. A kind of sharp ridge has appeared on the engine casing, which goes from the upper air intake to the rear wing and helps direct the flow to the rear of the car.
The design of the bottom has been revised, which is done to improve the quality of the flow passing under the machine. The task of more efficient airflow control is also performed by the side pontoons and the body parts of the AMR25 as a whole.
The AMR25's front and rear suspension is based on traction; the new air ducts for the front and rear brakes are designed to improve both brake cooling and airflow characteristics.
The rear wing was designed to achieve a more stable behavior of the rear of the car at the entrance to turns by reducing slip.
The line-up of the drivers has not changed, Fernando Alonso and the son of the team owner Lance Stroll will compete together for the fourth year. Alonso and Stroll will get behind the wheel of the AMR25 for the first time on Monday, February 24, as part of a day of filming and running the car on the highway in Bahrain, where pre-season tests will take place.
Fernando Alonso: "The year 2024 taught us a lot, and the team used this knowledge as a driving force in the process of preparing for the season and creating AMR25.
The fight promises to be very tight, because this is the last year under the current regulations, but I know that the team is working hard to prepare for 2026. The upcoming return to work on the track inspires me, I am ready to help our team become stronger and continue our common journey."
Lance Stroll: "During the winter offseason, the entire staff of the Aston Martin Technology Campus made great efforts to prepare as best as possible for the 2025 championship. Everyone in our team wants to achieve high results, and we are currently engaged in a very interesting project with excellent tools and talented specialists.
We have a very important year ahead of us – we need to make progress in 2025. I'm looking forward to the new championship, and I want to get back behind the wheel as soon as possible and start pre-season testing in Bahrain."
