Pirelli: Two mandatory pit stops in Monaco

Pirelli: Two mandatory pit stops in Monaco

In Monaco, Pirelli brought not only its own tires, including the softest C6 compound, tested for the first time in Imola, but also special baseball caps, in which the winners and prize-winners of this prestigious Grand Prix will appear on the podium.

Baseball caps in the colors of the flag of the Mediterranean principality were developed jointly with Pirelli by the famous designer Denis Dekovich – of course, the Italian tire manufacturers want to make money on this, informing fans that such caps have already gone on sale.

For the second weekend in a row, Pirelli is preparing three of the softest compositions from its lineup for the championship teams, i.e. C4 is Hard, C5 is Medium, C6 is Soft. At the same time, the first two must necessarily be used during the race, and this weekend in Monaco, for the first time, a new important rule will apply: each driver must make two pit stops.

The FIA and Formula 1 believe that this will make the race more interesting, as the Monaco Grand Prix often follows too linear and predictable a scenario. By the way, it was almost like that last year.

Another point is connected with the introduction of the new rule: Pirelli will provide each rider with an additional set of tires for heavy rain (previously there were two). Thus, the rule of two mandatory pit stops can also be applied in difficult weather conditions that may require the use of just such rubber.

Of course, it will be interesting to see how all this affects the tactics of the teams. One thing can be said right away: with two pit stops, you don't have to worry too much about the degradation of the rubber, even though it's already at a very low level in Monaco. Moreover, Pirelli does not even rule out that riders who go to the second mandatory pit stop late enough will be able to choose soft tires for the last leg of the race.

The same scenario can be realized if a safety car appears on the track during the final stages of the Grand Prix.
