McLaren denies that the FIA directives influenced the MCL39

As it became known to the European press, before the Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna in Imola, the FIA issued several technical directives. Such documents are usually not published in the press, but Racingnews365 managed to find out that the new directives concerned working with tires.

Such directives are intended to close loopholes in the regulations and clarify the opinion of the FIA on various technical issues and the possible use of "grey areas".

The news could have gone unnoticed, but it was after receiving these directives that McLaren had problems cooling its brakes and controlling tire wear, which did not happen during the first six stages of the season. Moreover, it was in Imola that the degradation of the rubber on the Red Bull car turned out to be less than that of the McLaren, and this was one of the factors in Max Verstappen's victory.

After the finish of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, questions arose as to whether the innovations had affected the Woking team. However, McLaren immediately denied that they were forced to make changes to the car in order for the MCL39 to meet the new requirements.
