Max Verstappen: The weather played against us

Max Verstappen started from pole position at Silverstone, but rainy weather played against the reigning world champion. Red Bull Racing set up the car for a dry track, and on the wet asphalt, Max couldn't compete with the leaders and finished fifth.

The recent race marked Yuki Tsunoda's fifth consecutive event without scoring points.

Max Verstappen (5th): "Not the most outstanding day. We didn't expect the track to be so wet. The weather changed against us overnight, so it was difficult to pilot with such rear wing settings.

Every time the car is set up for low downforce, we can't balance it in fast and slow corners with the tools at our disposal.

On the restart, I was spun around, and I lost many positions. I don't know what happened when I tried to pressed the throttle, but I managed to recover and finished fifth. After the spin, I continued, even though the car lacked speed.

On the positive side, I would mention our strategy. We made the right strategic decisions, pitted at the right moment, and stayed on intermediate tires. All decisions were correct, but the intermediates just lacked pace. That's racing, and we'll never be satisfied with fifth place, but we have to move forward.

I didn't enjoy the race, but it was nice to see Niko on the podium for the first time. I'm sure he'll celebrate tonight. The next race will be at Spa, on my favorite track in the calendar. I hope we perform better."

Yuki Tsunoda (15th): "Today was tough, but I wouldn't say I made too many mistakes today. I just had serious issues with pace, and on a dry track, the car lacked speed. Rain was the main problem today, and then, as usual, the tires degraded heavily on my car.

The incident with Oliver Berman was strange – the contact between the cars was minimal, but in these conditions, it had serious consequences. Right after the race, I found him to apologize.

If we talk about the positives of the weekend, the speed on the short stint was decent, but on the long stint, tire degradation was simply unbelievable. I felt confident in the rain, but we need to understand why I lacked speed.

Perhaps downforce played a role in that, but I still ended up slower than I should have been. The picture should be different in Belgium, and we will work a lot on this until the next race."
