Red Bull helped with adjustments for a low grip level.
Laurent Mekies has recently become the new team principal of Red Bull Racing, but in the very first race the team competed in after his appointment, which was the Saturday sprint at the Belgian Spa circuit, Max Verstappen secured a convincing victory. This was largely possible thanks to the team's decision to reduce downforce.
Laurent Mekies: "During the 15 lap sprint, Max had to hold off the pressure from McLaren, and he did an excellent job, making no mistakes. Both he and the team did everything possible, extracting the maximum from the car, even though our RB21 was not the fastest today.
Nevertheless, he maintained the lead, managed the tires effectively, and controlled the situation. It can’t be said that the only option for us was to lower the downforce level to increase speed on the straights. But the team made that choice, and it was a bold one because such an aggressive approach has its downsides. But definitely, today it helped us!"
