McLaren's Technical Director for Chassis Performance, Mark Temple, on the characteristics of the Suzuka track…

Mark Temple: "The first stages of the new season took place on two completely different tracks – Albert Park featured medium-speed and fast corners, while the Shanghai track had long slow and medium-speed sections. We have just started working with the new generation cars, but we have already faced two different challenges regarding energy accumulation and usage, which have influenced our driving approach and race strategy.

Suzuka is a unique and challenging track with iconic corners, but in terms of energy characteristics, it is similar to Melbourne. In certain sections, particularly at the entry to the first corner, energy recovery will be quite effective. This is one of the key ways to optimize the car, along with finding the optimal chassis settings and working with the tires.

We knew that in the 2026 season we would have to solve many complex tasks, and we continue to master the new car and enhance its efficiency to maximize the potential of the chassis and power unit — two key factors of competitiveness."
