Piastri: Amendments – a step in the right direction
McLaren driver Oscar Piastri supports the recently adopted amendments to the regulations but believes that it will take a few more races to fully understand the situation.
Oscar Piastri: "I still need to figure out these amendments myself, but I think it's a step in the right direction.
As for the changes to the acceleration button during overtaking, unexpected situations will still arise, but we are doing what we can. Reducing the amount of stored energy is also a step in the right direction. But let's see how it works on different tracks.
There were no serious issues in China, but there were certain difficulties in Australia and Japan. Now we have more freedom of action, but we'll see what happens next. I think the situation will vary from track to track, but overall we are moving in the right direction. How much will this help solve the problems? Time will tell.
Until now, if someone made a mistake in qualifying, it sometimes helped more than it harmed, and that shouldn't be the case. You still needed to attack at the limit, but with many restrictions in mind. In Suzuka, it turned out that you could complete a lap faster if you didn't press the gas between the two Degner corners.
In fact, this meant that approaching the first Degner, you needed to act even bolder than usual – you knew that if you didn't enter the corner quickly enough and then pressed the gas again, you would lose time. As a result, some drivers indeed acted bolder than usual. I hope that with these changes, everything will be as it was before, and you won't have to limit yourself so much while trying to complete a lap faster."
