"There will likely be additional changes"

Sebastian Vettel has expressed support for current drivers in their criticism of Formula 1’s new rules, cautioning that the sport must retain its fundamental identity. "I hope for the sport's sake that these modifications lead to greater driver satisfaction, as ultimately the drivers represent the sport," the retired four-time world champion shared with SVT. "When they exit the car, full of adrenaline and excitement, that energy resonates with the audience."

Now 38 and preparing to run the London marathon this weekend, Vettel acknowledged the rising concerns regarding the racing itself and the reasons F1 has opted for regulatory adjustments set to be implemented in Miami next weekend. "From a sporting angle, I hear and understand the criticisms voiced by many drivers, as the cars may be enjoyable to drive, but they might not offer the most entertaining racing experience," he commented. "I empathize with the drivers, and it is crucial not to lose the essence and character of the sport."

Nonetheless, the German, a strong advocate for environmental issues, recognized the positive aspects of this new era. "There are benefits, such as the sustainability of the fuel and its future potential," Vettel remarked. "It was time to introduce this kind of fuel."

Current drivers are also anticipating further modifications. Carlos Sainz, a director of the GPDA, mentioned that the recent adjustments might not be the last. "Given such a significant change in regulations, it was clear everything wouldn’t be perfect from the outset," he told DAZN. "There will likely be more changes needed in the future, but I’m pleased that progress is being made."

McLaren director Andrea Stella concurred that the process is ongoing. "If we, as the F1 community, remain receptive to change, let's learn from the outcomes," he stated. "This way, we can be open to refining things—and even embracing more substantial changes down the line."
