Zak Brown against the Mercedes and Alpine alliance

Mercedes is considering the possibility of acquiring 24% of the shares of the Alpine team, which are owned by the American investment group Otro Capital. McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown believes that this deal would not benefit Formula 1…

Zak Brown: “During the discussions on the new Concorde Agreement, the issue was raised that Red Bull owns two teams, but I really appreciate what they have done for the sport, and the fact that this happened quite a while ago. As long as the situation is under control, and Red Bull is monitoring it, everything is fine. But the emergence of another alliance in Formula 1 would be a serious mistake.

This poses a significant risk of violating the principles of sporting fairness. Fans may not like that there are not eleven independent teams in Formula 1, but several alliances.

I have been talking about this since day one. We saw how it affected the sport when Daniel Ricciardo, driving for AlphaTauri, took a point for the fastest lap from us in Singapore '24 to help another team. We saw violations of intellectual property rights in the cooling system of Racing Point due to similarities with Mercedes. This should not be the case in Formula 1.”
