"While in Shanghai, we had a meeting with Stefano Domenicali."
Chinese automotive giant BYD has confirmed that it is engaged in active discussions regarding a potential entry into Formula 1. Amid growing speculation that the brand could become the future 12th team, executive vice president Stella Li disclosed that there have been direct conversations with the sport’s leadership. "We met Stefano Domenicali in Shanghai. We’re always in close contact," she stated in an interview with Sport Mediaset. "I am drawn to Formula 1 because it embodies passion, culture, and the aspirations of those who dream of being part of it. Yes, this is something we are discussing." Li also emphasized the championship's technical allure. "It offers a genuine opportunity to test our technology." In recent weeks, BYD, the world’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has increasingly been associated with Formula 1, considering multiple possible entry pathways. These options are believed to include starting a new team, acquiring or aligning with an existing team like Racing Bulls, or entering as a power unit supplier.
