Brown advises F1 to take a cue from the "24 Hours of Nürburgring."
The 24-hour GT marathon on the "Nordschleife" of the Nürburgring this year attracted a record audience – over 350,000 spectators watched the events taking place from the stands and the trackside. Much of this was due to Max Verstappen's participation in the race. The four-time world champion and his team had every chance of winning, with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in Red Bull colors confidently leading for most of the distance, but about three and a half hours before the finish, a serious technical problem arose. However, that is another story. The television ratings for the "24 Hours of Nürburgring" were, of course, very high, especially since there was a very interesting battle on the track throughout the marathon. Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, shared a somewhat unexpected comment in this regard: "As is often the case, many different stories came from the 'Green Hell' (as the Nordschleife has long been dubbed by both drivers and fans), which broke the heart. However, the biggest loser due to the '24 Hours of Nürburgring' was… Formula 1. The World Championship has lost its way, while other series are decisively demonstrating that Motorsport (Brown intentionally capitalized this word) is alive and thriving. FOM and FIA must paint a convincing and attractive picture while developing regulations for the next cycle, which will begin in 2030, and for 2028, they should consider even more serious measures that will influence the balance of power than they plan to do in 2027."
