Fernando Alonso: Electric motors are not applicable to racing
In Montreal, Fernando Alonso gave a grim assessment of the hybrid era that began in Formula 1 back in 2014. The Aston Martin driver does not believe that the recent adjustments to the regulations and the abandonment of the 50/50 power ratio generated by the internal combustion engine and the electric motor in favor of a 60/40 ratio will fundamentally affect the nature of racing.
Fernando Alonso: "We can only wait for a new cycle of power units. The feature of the modern power unit is such that it will always encourage slow cornering. So I don't think this is a step in the right direction.
The FIA always listens to outside opinions. At one point, there was an avalanche of thoughts about electrification. It was believed that electric motors were the future, but they are not applicable to racing. Racing is a completely different story.
Now we are returning to the 60/40 ratio, and in the future, the proportion of the electric motor will decrease. But unfortunately, since the beginning of the turbo engine era in 2014, we have lost almost a decade, if not more, of pure racing."
