Simone Berra: The C4 and C5 compositions work quite stably.

Pirelli tire engineers summarized the first day of practice on the track in Monaco, where Ferrari drivers were the fastest, but Max Verstappen in the Red Bull Racing car was only slightly behind them. All three showed their best laps on the softest C5 compound tires.

However, throughout the day, Lewis Hamilton, who set the best time on Friday, and Charles Leclerc primarily worked with the C4 compound, while Verstappen completed most of his laps on C5.

The hard tires were only used at the beginning of the first session, after which almost everyone switched to Medium.

Simone Berra, Pirelli's chief engineer: "Most teams used hard tires at the very beginning of the weekend to assess the track conditions and give drivers the opportunity to adapt to the circuit and gain the necessary confidence behind the wheel.

The likelihood of using the C3 compound during the race is minimal—unless we are talking about a scenario that assumes a single pit stop, with the expectation that the battle on the track will not be neutralized at any point.

Throughout the day, the C4 and C5 compounds performed quite stably. Long series of laps completed by some drivers did not reveal any significant signs of degradation, and although granulation was observed on the front tires of some cars, it did not affect the pace.

The best lap times today were just three-tenths off the calculated time determined using simulators. Accordingly, it is quite likely that during qualifying, thanks in part to the improvement in track conditions, which in Monaco usually change very quickly, lap times may exceed the calculated ones.

To achieve a good result in qualifying, it is critically important to heat the soft tires to working temperatures. Teams can apply different approaches for this, considering the unique characteristics of the track.

Additionally, when evaluating possible tactical options, it is important to take into account traffic issues, especially since this year there are two more cars on the track."
