Yuki Tsunoda returned to the wheel of Red Bull during the tests.
On Wednesday in Barcelona, Pirelli continued testing prototypes of the 2027 tires with participation from Ferrari and Cadillac. The day before, Aston Martin also took part, but in fact, four teams were working on the track.
Red Bull Racing conducted tests as part of the TPC (Testing of a Previous Car) program with Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese driver returned to the wheel of a Formula 1 car for the first time since last year's race in Abu Dhabi, where he was the main driver for the Milton Keynes team.
"I’m still smiling after completing two race distances in the heat of Barcelona," Yuki Tsunoda wrote on social media. "It’s so great to be back behind the wheel. I feel like I never left."
On Tuesday, the McLaren team also conducted TPC tests, but not in Barcelona, rather in Monza. Behind the wheel of the 2023 MCL60 were two drivers – Leonardo Fornaroli and Will Stevens. Fornaroli completed 36 laps, focusing mainly on fast laps.
In the afternoon, he was replaced by Will Stevens, who completed 28 laps. For the British driver, these are the first tests in 2026, and the task was to compare the sensations from the real car with the work on the simulator.
"I always look forward to the opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car," said Leonardo Fornaroli, according to the McLaren press service. "I am very pleased with my performance in the first practice in Barcelona, and the previous TPC tests helped me prepare well for that session. I enjoy driving in Monza because it’s a very fast track, and the weather conditions today were good.
I am grateful to the McLaren team for their constant support and opportunities for further development. I also thank McLaren for allowing me to participate in the tests with Haas on Wednesday. I look forward to continuing to progress and gain experience."
Will Stevens: "It’s great to get behind the wheel as part of the TPC program. Driving a modern Formula 1 car in Monza is fun, but more importantly, I got benchmarks for my work on the simulator. We completed short and long runs, and the work will continue on Wednesday."
