James Vowles: We tested different configuration options.
At Silverstone, the Williams drivers made it to the second part of Saturday's qualifying, but could not achieve more...
James Vowles, team principal: "We made some small progress, but it is clear that there is still a lot of work ahead. In the sprint, we tested different setup options and managed to improve a bit. The gusty wind complicates driving, and although we couldn't extract everything our cars are capable of, it must be acknowledged that we are quite a bit behind the leaders of the midfield teams – and this gap needs to be closed as soon as possible. The race promises to be interesting – we will do everything we can."
Carlos Sainz (15th): "Nothing special happened in the sprint, I got stuck behind the Haas F1 car and struggled with acceleration. In qualifying, the wind picked up, and our car was very sensitive to it, which complicated handling and reduced our competitiveness. I tested several setups for the team to see if we could increase speed, but it didn't work – we still lacked pace. During the race, we will continue to gather information on the performance of the new front wing and the car as a whole. We'll see what we can do tomorrow, and our goal will be to maximize everything."
Alex Albon (16th): "Overall, the day went as we expected. Before the sprint, we changed the setup of my car – I started from the pit lane to better understand the car and try a few different approaches. The work was productive: we gained useful information, both positive and negative. All the other teams in the midfield brought significant updates, while our new parts will only arrive in Baku, so for now, we can only improve the car within certain limits. Before that, we will focus on experiments and gathering information. We had some minor issues in slow sections, but at high speeds, the car behaved better than in Austria and Barcelona. Perhaps the new front wing helped, although the simulator always promises a bit more than we get on track. Tomorrow, due to the wind, it will be difficult for everyone, and reliability might also play a factor. We are likely to be fighting more with Haas F1 than with Alpine."
