Lando Norris: We have no excuses for falling behind
Following the qualifying results in Silverstone, the McLaren team became the fourth fastest – Lando Norris qualified sixth behind the drivers from Mercedes, Ferrari, and Isaac Hadjar from Red Bull Racing. The reigning world champion stated that McLaren has no excuses for such a gap. Oscar Piastri qualified eighth and voiced his goal for the race – to try to overtake Red Bull Racing. Lando Norris (6th): "We've said multiple times that we have no excuses right now. We're a bit behind, but not by seven or eight tenths like in qualifying. We didn't perform well, but at the same time, the car's efficiency shows on this track. So it's more a matter of understanding the car and its dynamics. We've seen that two teams understand their cars better than we understand ours. Ferrari and Mercedes are ahead of us, so we have no excuses – we know we didn't do our job well enough. But everyone in the team is working at maximum effort, so we just need to make up the gap. We need to not just improve the car, but to outperform everyone else – not just make up eight tenths of a second, but to overtake everyone by two tenths, so there's a lot of work to do, but the team knows that time is not on our side. We don't have weeks and months to leisurely figure out the car. We need to prepare updates as quickly as possible, faster than our competitors. A gap of seven tenths on one fast lap is really impressive. It's just incredible that today in the sprint I managed to finish third, but at the same time, I had no chance of catching the guys ahead. We need to get the most out of the car we have at our disposal. Right now, there's nothing more we can do." Oscar Piastri (8th): "I had serious issues with the rear wheels' grip on the track. We thought we made the necessary adjustments to the setup before qualifying, but they didn't have the effect we were hoping for. It's a bit unexpected that the weekend is going so hard for the team. We've had balance issues all these days, the car lacks grip on the track and downforce. We'll see what can be done tomorrow and how we can slightly improve the situation. I think our main task is to overtake Red Bull. There might be chances to overtake Ferrari, but I'm not particularly optimistic about that. We'll see what we can achieve. The first few laps in the sprint turned into chaos, so I hope that in the race we can participate in the battle and stay in it."
