Kulthard is unhappy that they were not given a restart.
Former Formula 1 driver and commentator David Coulthard is unhappy with the FIA's decision to end the race under the safety car. Organizers talked all weekend about record attendance, but the FIA deprived fans of the chance to see the race's conclusion, even though the rules allowed for it.
David Coulthard: "I would have preferred a normal finish to the race. Yes, there are rules and regulations, but we work in the entertainment industry, and we should be concerned about keeping the show in the spotlight.
There is a rule that states the race cannot be resumed if lapped cars are allowed to un-lap themselves with less than one lap to go. But I believe this process could have been expedited.
Once the safety car is deployed, the race is neutralized. Yes, the safety car must catch up to the leader, but once that happens, everything can be done very quickly.
Lessons need to be learned from this situation. It was disappointing that the race didn't end with a one-lap sprint. That would have been much better than just driving to the finish."
