Red Bull may abandon the movable rear wing.

Red Bull Racing does not rule out that they may have to abandon the "Ferrari-style" movable rear wing – or "Macarena-style," as this design is called in the paddock.

For the second consecutive race, such a wing caused serious problems: in Austria, Max Verstappen crashed his car in the final qualifying session when the wing closed incorrectly, and the same thing happened yesterday in Silverstone when he was running fourth. However, both the driver and the team stated that the reasons for the malfunctions were different.

"It was very dangerous, as it could easily have resulted in an injury, and that happened twice in a row," an angry Max said yesterday. "I was lucky in Austria and here, but it's starting to get annoying."

We quoted Laurent Mekies, who had to apologize again to the four-time world champion, and speaking to the press after yesterday's race, the head of Red Bull Racing said:

"He has every right to express his dissatisfaction, you understand? Drivers really dislike it when their car lets them down, especially when it happens in high-speed corners for two consecutive races, even if the reasons for the problems are different.

It is also extremely unpleasant for the whole team that our drivers end up in the gravel trap because of us. I have no doubt that we will take all necessary measures to ensure that the problem does not recur, although we were unable to prevent it today. We take what is happening very seriously..."

Mekies refused to explain in detail the reasons that led to such dangerous incidents but confirmed that in Silverstone the wing malfunctioned again: "Whether the nature of the malfunction was different is not so important – we intend to completely review the design of this area of the car to completely eliminate the possibility of similar problems occurring again."

To the direct question of whether the team could return to a more conventional rear wing design, he replied: "We will take all necessary measures to ensure safety. We have already raced several times with this wing starting from the Miami stage. It is still too early to draw conclusions about whether the problem is related to the design itself or if it is something else. But we will analyze everything in detail to leave no doubts, and no possible course of action is ruled out."

Ferrari was the first team to successfully implement a movable rear wing, while McLaren, although they developed their version of the "Macarena-style" design, continues to test it only in practice and has not yet used it in races.
