Alpine dismisses the possibility of returning to a Renault engine.

"I don’t want to disrupt the team"

Renault has dismissed the idea of reviving its Formula 1 engine program for Alpine, despite the increasing support for a return to V8 engines starting in 2031. The FIA is aiming for a simpler engine formula that includes V8 engines with a diminished hybrid component, which has led to speculation that some manufacturers might consider re-entering as engine suppliers. However, Renault CEO Francois Provost stated that the French company has no plans to reverse its decision made last year to halt engine development. "I don’t want to disrupt the team and everyone with uncertainty," he told Reuters. "There is a clear reference today. I do not develop engines for Formula 1." Instead, Provost endorsed Alpine's move to use customer Mercedes power units as a significant factor in the team's progress. "We have the Mercedes engine, which is a good engine," he remarked. "It’s clearly a catalyst for our recovery this year."
