Liam Lawson talked about a conversation that changed his career.

      Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson shared how one conversation with Helmut Marko during the race weekend in Zandvoort in 2023 changed his career. Shortly before Daniel Ricciardo's crash in the practice for the Dutch Grand Prix, the New Zealander asked Marko why he had not yet been given a chance to debut in Formula 1. Lawson admitted that he did not understand why he continued to remain without a seat in Formula 1, even though he had been part of the Red Bull junior program for five years by that time. Liam Lawson: "For several days, I was only thinking about my future, and then I flew to Zandvoort. At that point, I decided that I would just go to Helmut and directly ask him what he thought. On Friday morning, I went to his office and said, 'Why don't you just give me a chance? You've invested so much money in me, what's the point then? I've been in the program for five years.' At some point, my words made him angry because he just interrupted the conversation. I left the office, called my coach, who was also at the track, and said, 'The situation is very complicated.' When Ricciardo broke his arm, the decision wasn't made immediately. It wasn't about putting me in the car. They first discussed who else could be invited from those who already had experience and were familiar with the car. Then I went back to Helmut. He looked at me and asked, 'Are you ready?' I replied, 'Yes.' That was the end of the conversation." After that, Liam Lawson made his Formula 1 debut, replacing the injured Daniel Ricciardo at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix.
