Domenicali confirmed negotiations with Hockenheim.

      At the end of July, we wrote that Formula 1 is negotiating with German promoters about the return of the German Grand Prix to the World Championship calendar. At a press conference held online by Liberty Media, summarizing the second quarter of 2026, Stefano Domenicali confirmed this.

      "We have resumed contact with the German side for the first time," said the president and CEO of Formula 1. "We are communicating with people from Hockenheim to understand if there is a possibility to bring back the German Grand Prix, but not in the near future, rather in the medium term."

      A number of informed sources assure that there are definitely chances for this, and they are quite high. However, the main problem that caused the German stage to stop being held has not yet been resolved, i.e., the issue of financing remains open.

      Nevertheless, in a comment from Jorn Teske, managing director of the Hockenheimring, there are signs of optimism: "We have already been informed that there is great interest in holding a race in Germany within Formula 1. I don't believe this is just empty talk."

      The German company emodrom event + services GmbH, the new owners of the Hockenheimring, has big plans: by 2034, they intend to invest around 250 million euros in its reconstruction and modernization of infrastructure. The first phase of this large-scale project is expected to be completed next year.

      However, besides financial issues, there are also other complexities: despite the interest in bringing back the German Grand Prix to the F1 calendar, the championship already consists of 24 stages, and it is no coincidence that Domenicali only speaks of a "medium-term perspective." It is unlikely that a race in Hockenheim can take place in the next two years, as agreements with all tracks have already been signed, and in the future, the German stage will most likely take place on a rotation basis with some other European Grand Prix.

      Undoubtedly, the Audi Group is interested in the return of the German Grand Prix, as the German automotive giant, with annual revenues of around 65.5 billion euros, now has its own factory team in Formula 1. And if major German businesses get involved in this project, then gradually all issues will be resolved. Especially since the European audience of the championship, according to the latest statistics from Liberty Media, is growing again.
