Alonso experienced issues with his brakes and neck in China.
"I attempted to safeguard my neck."
Fernando Alonso acknowledges that he raced during the Chinese GP weekend with a slight neck injury. Former Red Bull designer Adrian Newey has already begun his work at Aston Martin, but his attention is directed towards the 2026 project, which currently places the Silverstone-based team in seventh position in the constructors' championship. "We understood after the Bahrain test that we wouldn’t be in a favorable position," admits chief trackside officer Mike Krack. "We’ve observed that we are in the mid-table. It’s quite competitive, but truly, that’s our standing."
During the Chinese GP, Alonso faced a significant issue when his brakes overheated and failed, forcing him to enter the pits and retire from the race. "If it had occurred at turn 13 or 14, I think I would have collided with five or six cars," he shared with DAZN. "Running out of brakes in an F1 car is one of the worst situations one can encounter."
Additionally, Alonso experienced more than just brake issues in Shanghai, as attentive viewers noticed substantial physio tape on his neck on the grid. "I tried to safeguard my neck," he revealed. "I had a twinge, a nerve issue, or something similar for a few days. Ultimately, it didn’t offer much assistance since we didn’t complete many laps." Having crashed out at the season opener in Australia, Alonso currently holds zero points in 2025.
