Carlos Sainz is the ambassador of the Madring Circuit

A presentation of the future Madrid Grand Prix circuit took place today in the Spanish capital at the IFEMA Sports and Concert complex. On Thursday, we told you that the official permission for its construction has been received, and today the symbolic laying of the foundation stone took place.

The event is not an ordinary one, quite a lot of important people gathered at it, having one way or another to do with Spanish motorsport, including Sainz's father and son, and Carlos Jr. was given the honorable duty to become the ambassador of the future Madring circuit in a solemn atmosphere. In addition, he will advise its creators on the configuration of the route.

Everything is logical, because the 30-year–old Williams racer is a native of Madrid.

"When I was offered this, I didn't think for more than two seconds! – Carlos said at today's presentation. – This is great news for Madrid, my hometown, the best in the world, which I always talk about with sincere delight when I travel.

The drivers in the Formula 1 paddock are already asking me a lot of questions about the configuration of the future track, and I tell them that I will do my best to help create a track where racing will take place in an exciting way.

I would like the track to have a special character, so that it differs from others in some way, and I would define it as a hybrid ring: it is located in the city limits, the barriers are quite close here, and this always adds adrenaline to the riders. But at the same time, it also has the features of a traditional racetrack, and that's what we racers like the most.

Personally, I like the shaped, fast turns and their combinations the most, and our track has it all."

But at the presentation, Carlos was entrusted not only with making speeches – he also gave the go-ahead with a checkered flag at the finish of an amusing race, which had an exceptionally symbolic meaning: two impressive-sized electric loaders manufactured by the Chinese company LiuGong took off.

Outwardly, everything looked quite traditional: the starting traffic light, the commentator, Sainz Jr. with the checkered flag, but the distance was really "sprinting" – two hundred meters maximum. Carlos was having a lot of fun when one of these four-wheeled monsters got to the finish line first.…
