Hülkenberg: We need to achieve the optimal balance
Following Friday's practice at the Marina Bay circuit, Sauber's drivers ended up outside the top ten, but the team, reviewing the first day of the Singapore weekend, complained that work on track had been affected by the fact that it was stopped several times by red and yellow flags.
Nico Hülkenberg (14th): "It's great to be back working on the Singapore circuit. The second session was interrupted by red flags, so we weren't able to operate according to the usual Friday running plan, which means everyone will face a task with a lot of unknowns on Sunday. We couldn't put together consistent run sequences today, so there's some homework to do this evening. We need to try to achieve the optimal balance and find a better approach in a number of areas, but overall we've gathered useful information that will allow us to move forward. As for the conditions we're working in, I think adapting to them is easier than a year ago — I don't know what explains that. Maybe the weather, or the effective operation of the cooling vest."
Gabriel Bortoleto (15th): "We worked on the track to get a sense of what awaits us this weekend, and that's good. But while the first practice went more or less smoothly, you can't say the same about the second — traffic issues prevented us from stringing together proper laps, not to mention that the session was interrupted several times. Overall the feeling in the car is not bad, but I think we still need to work on the balance. At times it was difficult to pilot, but we collected a large amount of information that needs to be analysed in preparation for tomorrow's qualifying."
