Leclerc states that Ferrari "can contend for the championship" in '26.
"We possess a very good car, and I’m enjoying the experience of driving it."
Charles Leclerc is confident that Ferrari has the necessary elements to challenge for the championship in 2026, especially as anticipation grows for a potential advancement following Miami. "I believe we've made significant strides with the car. We have a very good vehicle, and I'm enjoying piloting it," he mentioned on The BSMT by Gianluca Gazzoli podcast.
"The team has been doing an excellent job with the updates, and the engineers are performing wonderfully, which enhances my driving experience. We have the capability to compete. This car gives me the opportunity to showcase my abilities. The speed is there; it's now up to me.
"I must capitalize on my opportunities, maintain consistency, and avoid errors. If I can do that, we can compete." Currently, Ferrari is seen as the clear runner-up to Mercedes, yet there is growing optimism that new developments and long-term engine advancements could help close the gap.
Leclerc emphasized that maintaining consistency is crucial throughout a lengthy season. "The championship is extended, and many factors can shift—strategies, results. Therefore, it’s vital to concentrate on what you can manage, which includes your pace and consistency. If you remain consistent, you’ll be in contention until the end. That’s precisely my goal."
He also noted the significance of stability within the team. "I collaborate well with my engineer. We're in sync and fully understand each other, which is essential. There’s always potential for enhancing the car, but it’s already competitive. I’m pleased—very satisfied with how things are progressing."
Ultimately, the Monegasque has a clear vision for his ambitions. "Can I contend for the title? Yes, I believe we can. If we possess the speed, if the car permits it, and if we execute everything correctly, then yes, we can vie for the championship. I’m hopeful. We have everything we need. I trust in the team, and if we collaborate effectively, we can achieve an impressive outcome. That's my objective."
