Verstappen's team continues the fight for pole position.

Despite yesterday's tragedy, activity resumed on the Nürburgring track on Sunday: the day's program included the second qualifying session and the second race of the weekend.

In the morning, the asphalt on the "North Loop" was still not completely dry after the night rain, so the drivers faced difficulties. The first to take the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 from Verstappen Racing was Lukas Auer, Max's teammate, who gradually improved and set the second-fastest time.

The condition of the track improved, and when Auer was replaced by Verstappen, he immediately drove much faster than all the other participants in the NLS5 race; however, they, of course, picked up the pace when they switched to slicks. But crew No. 3 did not return to the track, so they ended up far outside the top ten – however, this was done for tactical reasons to save the tires for the decisive battle for pole position.

In any case, Verstappen made it to the final qualifying session, which has just started. In the final, each GT3 category team will have two races on a track free of slower cars from less powerful classes.

"I have wanted to qualify in this format for a long time," Max commented. "I have seen many endurance races, and such qualifying is one of the most serious tests. This is my first opportunity like this, I am very nervous, so let's see how it goes.

For me, this is an important weekend, also because Lukas needs help to improve. He has spent the least time behind the wheel so far, so it's important for him to gain speed. The car is working great, and at the same time, I am learning to set it up correctly – we are still trying to make some minor adjustments to go even faster.

To be honest, I want to gain more experience so that I feel more comfortable behind the wheel of our car. I hope the track will be dry, although it's possible that some wet spots will still remain, and the grass will be wet, so we need to act cautiously. But it's useful for me to work behind the wheel in different conditions."
