Ferrari's 'Macarena' wing expands as competitors introduce upgrades in Miami.
Red Bull has now joined the trend.
Ferrari’s innovative 'Macarena' rear wing concept is starting to gain traction in the Formula 1 arena, with Red Bull now also testing this prominent solution. As reported by Giusto Ferronato of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ferrari continued to develop the cutting-edge wing during a filming session at Monza this week. He stated, "New developments have been made on the Macarena wing, which remains in the testing stage and is anticipated to be structurally implemented in the upcoming races." The device, which features a 270-degree rotating mechanism of the active rear wing under the 2026 regulations, was first experimented with by Ferrari during practice earlier this season and is expected to be fully introduced in Miami. Notably, Red Bull has now followed this path. An updated RB22, driven by Max Verstappen, took to the track at Silverstone on April 22, reportedly featuring a version of the same concept, along with broader aerodynamic modifications including updated sidepods and a revised front wing. Reports indicate this package could provide a straight-line speed improvement of "5 to 10 kph." Ferronato highlighted that Ferrari also utilized the Monza test to analyze "energy management, an essential factor" in light of the regulatory changes slated for Miami. Meanwhile, McLaren is also gearing up for a significant update. Team principal Andrea Stella described the upcoming package as essentially a "completely new car." "We’re very determined to re-enter the competition," he stated to Sky Italia. "We don't impose any limits - perhaps another 2024 is achievable."
