Krack suggests enhancements for Canada, even in light of Alonso's perspective.
Aston Martin is sending inconsistent signals regarding its recovery strategy following the Miami Grand Prix. While Fernando Alonso stated that significant performance upgrades wouldn't be expected until races "12 or 14," team COO Mike Krack is now indicating that changes could occur as soon as the next Grand Prix in Canada.
"We’re really excited about heading to Canada," Krack told Marca. "It’s clearly an important race for us, for the team, and for our partnership with Honda." He mentioned, "So we’ll be bringing upgrades and aim to improve upon our previous performance."
These remarks seem to contradict the more cautious outlook expressed by Alonso and Lance Stroll, who hinted that major aerodynamic enhancements would likely be delayed until after the summer break. Marca speculated that the planned changes for Canada might focus on reliability, drivability, or power unit enhancements instead of a comprehensive aerodynamic overhaul.
Krack asserted that Aston Martin has made significant strides since a challenging pre-season. "As we've observed in recent weeks and months, our progress, particularly in terms of reliability, reducing vibrations, and enhancing handling, has been impressive," he noted. "I believe we’ve already seen considerable improvements."
He also defended the team's ability to address early-season challenges swiftly. "We faced numerous issues at the start of the season, particularly extraordinary problems," Krack acknowledged. "Nevertheless, I find the speed with which we resolved them to be truly remarkable."
However, he recognized the considerable gap that still needs to be bridged. "We must also acknowledge that there is a significant distance to cover," he remarked. Krack indicated that Aston Martin’s current emphasis is not solely on aerodynamic advancements but also on understanding and refining the existing package. "It’s essential to have a clear strategy and plan," he elaborated. "Our role at the track is to maximize what we currently have. We have much to learn from the data we've collected, and it's vital to keep the entire team motivated to continue working on it as we anticipate the next phase."
