McLaren is focused on a closed production cycle.
In collaboration with Google and Deloitte, the McLaren team has developed a "roadmap" for creating Formula 1 cars in a closed-loop system, minimizing environmental impact and waste at every stage of the process. As part of the sustainability strategy, the team reduced overall waste by 14% in 2025, and the volume of hazardous waste in composite manufacturing by 40% compared to 2024. The report confirms that the team maintained the use of recycled materials at 22% in chassis production, including the reuse of metals, recycling of household waste, and hazardous liquids. Additionally, in collaboration with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, McLaren engineers developed OSCAR (Operational System for Coral Assembly and Restoration) — a semi-autonomous machine capable of improving efficiency and reducing costs for coral reef restoration. The installation is currently undergoing testing in Australia with the prospect of implementing this technology on other reefs around the world.
