Monaco Grand Prix: Changes to the track and overtaking zones
On the eve of the Monaco Grand Prix, the FIA announced changes to the city circuit and confirmed the locations of the activation zones for the overtake mode (OT) and the absence of straight mode (SM) zones. Compared to last year, new asphalt has been laid in several sections – from the 19th to the 1st corner, in the run-off area of the fifth corner, from the 7th corner to the entrance of the tunnel, and at the entrance and exit of the pit lane. Longer protective mesh barriers have been installed at the exit of the pit lane, on the left side at the 1st and 3rd corners, on the right side between the 4th and 5th corners, and on both sides at the 10th corner. The access gates to the starting grid have been moved to the area of the 5th position. The protective barrier on the left side of the 3rd corner has been relocated and extended. The barrier at the 10th corner has been lengthened and the size of the opening has been reduced. The barriers at the 11th and 12th corners have become longer. Additionally, another row of barriers has been added at the entrance to the pit lane. In the 4th corner, the tire barrier on the left side has been replaced with a Tecpro barrier. The start of the curb on the left side of the 6th corner has become smoother. The curb on the left side of the 7th corner has been completely smoothed out. The height of the extended curbs in the 10th and 16th corners has been reduced.
There is one overtake mode zone on the Monaco circuit. The measurement point is located 80 meters after the 16th corner. Being within one second behind the opponent's car at the measurement point, the driver will be able to activate the overtake mode, receiving an additional 0.5 MJ of electrical energy. The activation point for the overtake mode is 40 meters after the 18th corner.
