Oscar Piastri: The weekend is not going well for us.

As a result of the qualifying session in Monaco, McLaren is only the fourth fastest team: on the streets of the Mediterranean principality, Mercedes, Red Bull Racing, and Ferrari were faster. The best driver from the championship team was Oscar Piastri, who achieved the 7th fastest time.

Oscar Piastri (7th): "This weekend has been challenging for us. We came here expecting difficulties – and that's exactly how it is. The main issue is that we generally lack grip, and although we managed to make some progress and improve the car's balance after Friday's practice, the speed deficit still remains.

From my side, I can say that in qualifying we managed to extract the maximum possible from the car and put in some decent laps. When it comes to race prospects, we need to stay realistic. It's very difficult to overtake on this track, and we don't expect that to change.

All our attention will be focused on optimal tire selection and clear execution of strategy, and we need to make the most of the car's capabilities. Anything can happen in Monaco, so we'll see what we can achieve."

Lando Norris (8th): "The whole weekend we've been in a less than favorable position, and qualifying confirmed that. I was driving confidently, except for the last lap when I overcooked it a bit trying to make up three tenths and locked up the brakes.

Compared to practice, we did improve, and at the start of qualifying it seemed like we were doing better, but partly that was because the faster teams opted for a more conservative approach, while we were pushing to the limit right away.

We understand what we are lacking, and it's better to find that out now than at later stages of the season. Tomorrow we will apply an aggressive strategy and are ready to take risks, betting on the appearance of the safety car or any other opportunity that may arise.

But overtaking here is not easy, so we need to realistically assess the situation. We will try to improve the car, achieve more stable rear-end behavior, and the necessary level of downforce, and the goal is to show the kind of speed we had in Miami on tracks like Barcelona."
